Little Frank Abagnale (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), who is under 18 years old, was deeply affected by his parents' divorce. He lonely and sadly started a business of forging checks to defraud cash. He succeeded again and again, writing bad checks totaling up to US$6 million in 50 states of the United States and 28 countries around the world, becoming the youngest criminal on the most wanted list in the United States. Soon after, he pretended to be a pilot to fly on high-end planes and stay in high-end hotels.
After that, he used a forged Harvard medical degree certificate to work as an emergency doctor at a hospital in Georgia. There, he quickly fell in love with a caregiver named Brenda (Amy Adams), and then Frank followed his girlfriend to her hometown of New Orleans. Breda's father (Martin Sheen), a prosecutor, heard that Frank graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, law department. He was very happy that his daughter had found such a boyfriend, so he arranged for him to be an assistant prosecutor. Frank Abagnale is also satisfied with his current career. Just as he was trying to pass Louisiana's legal qualification exam through his own efforts, the persistent FBI investigator Carl Hanratty (played by Tom Hanks) focused on him. Fortunately, Frank always protects himself legally one step ahead of Carl Hanratty, and teases Carl again and again with phone calls and postcards. Interestingly, although neither Frank nor Carl admit it, they are strikingly similar: both like to spend lonely Christmas days on the phone, are estranged from their families, and both seem to like it. A game of chasing and being chased. Carl sympathized with Frank, who had committed so many crimes, and he was not yet 20 years old at the time, but Carl could not bear to be teased by him again and again. In the end, Frank Abagnale Jr. failed to escape the law, but his method of escaping the FBI's pursuit time and time again has been talked about.
